Jackson Farms host Seed Consultants Field Day

Friday, Ty Higgins of the Ohio Ag Net headed southwest to Camden, Ohio just this side of the Ohio-Indiana border to Jackson Farms. Seed Consultants, Incorporated’s final field day of the season was held there to show SCI growers some research plots and how their products fared in 2012.

Don Jackson will start his harvest over the weekend and told Ty that he is hearing yield figures all of the board so far.

Water Quality, Transparency top list at OLC Annual Meeting

Themes of improving transparency in livestock farming, engaging with consumers and addressing water quality and nutrient management were prevalent at the 2012 Ohio Livestock Coalition Annual Meeting and Industry Symposium, held Friday in Lewis Center.

David White is the executive director of  OLC and he and Ty Higgins talked about the continually changing conversation between producers and consumers.

One of the speakers at the OLC Annual Meeting was Charlie Arnot, CEO of the Center for Food Integrity. Ty asked Arnot if the message producers are giving is the one consumers want to hear.

Cargill’s director of communications was also a guest speaker. He shared with the audience about a segment his company did with the Oprah show last year and the impact he thought it made on consumers across the country.

Little Seeds, Big Tractors takes over COSI

This week, COSI will once again host Little Seeds, Big Tractors. The annual event will run through August 19th. There is something for all ages at this exhibit. Come out and learn where our food comes from and how it is produced. There will be tractors to see upclose and other interactive exhibits!

Coverage of the 2012 Ag Media Summit

The Ag Media Summit is a joint meeting of the American Agricultural Editors’ Association, the Livestock Publications Council and the American Business Media Agri-Council. This industry-wide gathering of agricultural communicators offers one of the best opportunities for professional improvement and industry networking. More than 600 attend this event each year, including Matt Reese of Ohio’s Country Journal.

While attending the meetings hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Reese had the chance to visit with many of the ag exhibitors that also made their way to the event.
