Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast December 4, 2019

No changes whatsoever in the forecast through this weekend, and only a minor tweak to our system coming through early next week. We are dry through the rest of this week and weekend. Temps stay on the cooler side of things today over most of the state, but we do start to see some slight temperature moderation in far southern Ohio this afternoon (particularly southwest). Temps are not as cold tomorrow.  WE should see better sunshine potential statewide the rest of this week, but we wont rule out lake effect clouds today and tomorrow in the far NE part of the state either, as relatively strong NW flow continues to dominate in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. A weak trough sags through the eastern corn belt on Friday, and that will bring the small temperature setback for we mentioned yesterday for Friday. Then we have a significant warm up for the weekend. That warm up will come on south flow ahead of our next front.

That front arrives Monday. However, the system is not as moisture laden as we see it this morning, and as such, we are pulling back on rain totals just a bit. We expect .1″-.5″ over 80% of Ohio on Monday, and while cold air is still expected to race in overnight Monday night, moisture looks to be gone. Therefore, we do not think snow is an issue for next Tuesday. There is still plenty of time for the system to modify further, so we continue to watch it. but at the moment, this doesn’t look like as big of a deal for our area.

Much, much colder for Tuesday afternoon on through Wednesday, and early Thursday, as we see clouds give way to sun. Temps moderate again on Thursday afternoon. But, then we have our next front arriving for Friday the 13th. This front looks more impressive with a chance of liquid equivalent precipitation from 25″-.75″ over the state. However, it looks like we could see rain or snow or both (north vs. south) out of the system with its current track. We will need to watch it. The map at right shows updated liquid equivalent precipitation totals through midweek next week.

For the extended period,  colder air comes in for next weekend. After that we warm significantly again for Monday the 16th, and we have our second chance of rain for Tuesday the 17th. We can see totals up to .75″ but the moisture will be mostly focused on southern Ohio, just like we laid out yesterday.
