Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast – October 9, 2019

Weekend system rain totals

Continued sunny and dry the rest of this week. A few more clouds will be around tomorrow, particularly in far NW Ohio, but they are not a threat. Then Friday starts with sun, but clouds will be building late afternoon and evening. Our next front is on track to arrive just a little sooner, and we could see precipitation before midnight Friday night. That cold front moves through the overnight Friday through early afternoon Saturday. This cold front is part of a very strong system that will pound the upper Midwest and northern plains with snow starting later today on through Friday. However, the front still looks significantly less impressive, at least where moisture is concerned, by the time it gets here. We are leaving coverage at 90% of Ohio, but putting rain totals at .1″-.7″, which is a little higher on the upper end of the range. Winds will be strong as the front comes through and on the backside.

Mostly sunny, dry and cooler for Sunday. We may even see some patchy frost Sunday morning over Ohio, but the threat continues to look smaller and smaller as we move forward. Sun also dominates on Monday into early Tuesday.

Later Tuesday, we see clouds increase, and then a few showers work through Ohio with another cold front.  From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday midday we can see a few hundredths to .6″of moisture develop, with the heaviest action overnight Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in far SE Ohio. Coverage will end up being around 80% of the state.

We finish the 10 day period and start the extended 11-16 day window with rain free weather. Sunny and dry conditions are in from next Wednesday afternoon through the following Monday. A new wrinkle in the extended outlook is the threat of rain and thunderstorms around Tuesday the 22nd, but rain potential has a fairly wide range at this point. We will continue to monitor that system. Then dry again behind that front for Wednesday and Thursday, the 23rd and 24th. Those days look significantly colder across the entire eastern corn belt.
