Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast, March 15, 2019

Strong west and northwest winds are blowing across Ohio today. This will bring some cloud cover in to the region, thanks in part to the great lakes (think lake enhancement) and also in part to the huge circulation around the low in southern Canada. While clouds are the biggest feature of this set up, we wont rule out some spits and sprinkles, and even a flurry or two, if the clouds hold into the overnight. The best chance of that will be limited to NE Ohio. Temps today will be at least 20 degrees colder than what we were fortunate to see yesterday.

The rest of the forecast is basically unchanged. However, there are a few plot twists this morning, most notably, some clouds the return on Wednesday. We will be cool with temps normal to slightly below normal for the weekend through next Tuesday. While we see some sun, which makes it feel and look nice, we do not see significant warming. On Wednesday, we have a strong south wind developing, which triggers the warm up and also some clouds as the warm air quickly overtakes cooler air. We won’t rule out spits and sprinkles again, but really should not have too much to worry about. We are sunny and dry through the rest of next week into early Sunday morning. Temps will be above normal for that part of the forecast. The map at right shows precipitation totals for the coming 5-7 days – our amounts are minimal.

The pattern gets wetter for the extended window, starting later next Sunday afternoon. We see rain from there through Monday bringing half to 1” of rain with 80% coverage. Then a second batch of moisture arrives Tuesday night and goes through Wednesday, adding another .25”-.5” and 100% coverage. Then, we finish the extended pattern going back dry for Thursday and Friday, as we get ready to finish the month. That’s it in a nutshell…pretty simple forecast this morning.
