  1. I am a small reputable breeder of Miniature Schnauzers of 20 years. I have never had enough dogs at any given time to qualify for a license. I never breed my females before their second or third heat and retire them young to a pet home. Not one of my pups have ever ended up in a shelter. They leave here with a packet of information on feeding, vet care, grooming, how to potty train and what to expect owning a Schnauzer. I offer a record and contract stating, I will take the dog back if they are unable to care for it. Why are you making me out to be the bad guy? Once you’ve accomplished your goal of putting small breeders out of business, who will provide healthy puppies to the public? How will this new law affect, vets, the AKC, Rivival Animal, Care-A-Lot, Royal Canin and I could go on and on? My breeding dogs come from healthy tested lines to weed out genetic problems. Wednesday’s letter to the editor made me out to be a cry baby and playing a victim. If I hadn’t been a breeder for the last twenty years, I would most likely see me that way too. I’ll state some facts:HSUS spends less than 1% of their budget from donations. [spend several thousands a year on the little bit of dogs I have.] HSUS does not pay taxes [I pay taxes]. HSUS has been called a scam. [I’m certainly not].
ASPCA spent a whopping $52 million on fund raising.
HSUS’ CEO earns $4 million a year. [I adverage less than minimum wage every year].
HSUS=PETA and they lobbied with PetLand to pass the pet store bill to put me out of business. They have power because of your donations. Once I’m out of business, PetLand will be a monopoly. The most shocking thing I read; shelters buy dogs from foreign markets to meet demands. The very thing they claim they are against! This information above can be found on the Internet. So I’m not a crybaby. I’m just trying to provide healthy puppies who will bring lots of love and joy. And next time you watch a sad dog commercial with “In the Arms of an Angel” playing in the background ground, think how little is really being done for that poor dog. Wake up! Change this bill before more damage is done.

    • I don’t think any breeder with 20 or less dogs should have to pay a $500.00 license a yr because these people that have hundreds of dogs those sell puppies every week have a lot more income coming in, so why in the world do you think the small breeders with 20 or less dogs should pay about the same as them huge Breeders described as PUPPYMILLS where the PET SHOPS CHOICE PUPPIES PETLAND BERLIN PETS and those guys buy from. PLEASE BUY FROM SMALL BREEDERS the ones that advertise on buckeye puppies Lancaster Puppies and sites like that if you buy from pet stores you are supporting Puppymills.

    • I really hope responsible breeders like Cathy don’t get pushed out by irresponsible, monopolistic puppy mills. Cathy takes great care of her dogs.
