Hundreds filled the Archie Griffin Ballroom at The Ohio State University’s Student Union Thursday night to take part in one of the great traditions of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. The 62nd Annual CFAES Student Recognition Banquet was themed “Should Have Seen It In Color” and took time to acknowledge those faculty, staff, students, and organizations of the College that made an outstanding impression in the past school year.
“Tonight at the CFAES Recognition Program, we honored students, staff, and faculty for their outstanding achievements throughout the year,” said Stacie Seger, student chair of the banquet. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together in terms of our family, community members, donors, and supporters to really join around and celebrate the wonderful things our students are doing here in the college.”
The banquet is also seen as a last hurrah for seniors soon to graduate from OSU. Seger is one of the Class of 2015.
“I’m so thankful to be a part of the CFAES family,” she said. “It was a little challenging this evening to say goodbye and sing Carmen Ohio for that final time with my fellow classmates.
“This college and this university have really shaped me into the individual that I am today and I’m so excited to start that new chapter. I’m truly a Buckeye for life.”
Maurice Eastridge is a professor and Extension dairy specialist for Ohio State and was recognized with multiple awards for his devotion to students. He is also advisor of the Buckeye Dairy Club, this year’s winner of the Ed Johnson Outstanding Student Organization Award.
“Kudos from me to the Buckeye Dairy Club for winning the Ed Johnson Outstanding Student Organization Award here tonight. It’s a great group of kids and it’s a pleasure to work with them,” Eastridge said. “I was a fortunate recipient of a couple of awards. I enjoy doing the academic advising and just interacting with the students. Fortunately tonight there was a couple of awards there on that behalf, but all the recognition goes to the students.”
Guests were also treated to the surprise appearance of the “Buckeye Decade Dancers,” a group comprised of students and staff moving to the beat of hits from throughout the decades.
