Joe Jobe, CEO of the National Biodiesel Board, pointed out the difficulties of the nation’s biodiesel industry in 2009 and the opportunities for the future with the recent RFS2 from the EPA and reason to expect a prompt renewal of the biodiesel tax credit that is retroactive to help cover the tremendous losses for the industry in recent months. The NBB Convention is in Texas this year, the state with the largest biodiesel production capacity.

Steve Reinhard, with the Ohio Soybean Council, talks with Texas State Representative Rick Hardcastle and Michael Nasi, with the Biofuel Coalition of Texas, about measures their state has taken to boost their biodiesel industry. Texas has a state tax credit for biodiesel that offers clean benefits to biodiesel makers in the state.

At the National Biodiesel Board Conference in cold and rainy Texas today, insightful economist Don Reynolds told visitors that banks and real estate are at, or near, the economic bottom, which is good news for the economy in the near future. The recession, he pointed out, is not over until the consumer thinks it is. Long term, however, our national deficit, combined with our trade deficit, means higher inflation and economic challenges ahead, but a bright future for the biofuels industry.
